What it is

A list of properties that a North Carolina county is foreclosing on because of unpaid property taxes. The county or its attorney posts the list.

Why it matters

The owner has unpaid taxes and may lose the property at auction. Some owners may want to sell before the sale.

The fields you get

  • Parcel number
  • Court file number
  • Property address or description
  • Status
  • Sale date
  • Minimum or opening bid
  • Owner name (some counties)

Each county updates on its own schedule. When we checked on 5 Nov 2026, Edgecombe showed LAST UPDATED 11/4/2026 and Halifax had files uploaded on Oct 29, 2026.

Watch out for these

  • Past sales can stay on the list. Cabarrus and Craven showed older sale dates with the status in the upset bid period. Check the status, not only the date.
  • Cherokee gives case number, owner, PIN and opening bid, but no street address. One row says VARIOUS PROPERTIES instead of a PIN.
  • The Cherokee page said Thursday, November 24, 2026, but that date is a Tuesday. Confirm the date with the county before you rely on it.
  • Some rows have no house number. Edgecombe has road names only on some rows and Craven has entries like Near corner of. Do not guess the number.
  • The Edgecombe table is wide. On a small screen, scroll right to see the file number.
  • In Halifax, the top Tax Foreclosures folder looked empty. The files were in the In Rem Tax Judgments folder under it. These files are judgments, not sale notices.
  • The counties warn buyers to do their own research. Confirm details with the county before you act on them.

Common questions

Why is my North Carolina county not here?
We list a county only after we saw records on its page. Some county pages show no properties when no sale is scheduled.
How do I search Cabarrus?
Use the Search box at the top right. Typing COMPLAINT narrowed the cards to that status when we tested it.
