What it is

Properties going to public sale because the property taxes were not paid. The county clerk runs the sale online, and each sale day has its own list.

Why it matters

Owners who owe back taxes may want to sell before the sale date. The opening bid is often far below the assessed value, so it helps you find possible deals.

The fields you get

  • Sale date and time
  • Case number
  • Certificate number
  • Opening bid
  • Parcel ID
  • Property address
  • Assessed value

When checked, calendars showed sale days up to about three months ahead. Some counties have only a few sale days in that time.

Follow these 6 steps

  1. Open the Highlands County tax deed site

Go to the Highlands County link on this page. You will see the home page with three big buttons. You do not need to log in.

Tips for after you pull

  • Click the Parcel ID on an item to open the county property appraiser page for it. In Polk this page has owner information.

Watch out for these

  • The list has no owner name. You must look up the owner on the property appraiser site.
  • Skip anything in Auctions Closed or Canceled. Items there can be marked Redeemed, which means the taxes were paid and the property is no longer in the sale.
  • Brevard, Charlotte, Manatee and Walton have tax deed sales on their realforeclose.com site, on the same calendar as foreclosures. Click only the Tax Deed days. Use the links on this page.
  • An address can be cut off or have no house number, such as a street name only. Use the Parcel ID to confirm the property.
  • Bay, Jackson and Walton show sale times in Central Time (CT). Other counties we checked show Eastern Time (ET).
  • A small county can have no sale day soon. Sarasota showed no upcoming Tax Deed day when we checked. Look at later months, then check again later.
