What it is

New court cases filed after someone died. The clerk posts a new file of these filings each day.

Why it matters

Heirs often need to sell an inherited home. A new probate case helps you find them early.

The fields you get

  • Case type
  • Case number
  • Case title
  • Filing date
  • Party type
  • Party name
  • Date of death
  • Party address
  • Attorney

Files appeared daily, most with a time around 11 PM to midnight. Only about the last 30 days were in the folder.

Follow these 6 steps

  1. Open the probate filings folder

Go to https://publicrec.hillsclerk.com/Probate/dailyfilings/. This is a public folder from the Hillsborough clerk. It has one file for each day. No login.

  2. Download a file

Click a file name, such as ProbateFiling_20261103.csv. The numbers at the end are the date (year, month, day). The file downloads to your computer.
  3. Open it in Excel

Open the file in Excel or Google Sheets. Turn on filters on the first row. Important columns are CaseTypeDescription, CaseNumber, FilingDate, PartyType, DateofDeath and PartyAddress.
  4. Find the estates

In PartyType, select Decedent. This removes guardianship and trust cases that have no person who died.
  5. Add the people to contact

Use each CaseNumber to find other rows from the same case. Look for Petitioner, Beneficiary and Next of Kin. These rows can have names and addresses.
  6. Save your records

Copy the rows you want to your master sheet. Repeat for each day you need.

Watch out for these

  • Each case has many rows, one for each person. Do not count rows as cases.
  • Some Decedent rows have no address. Use the Petitioner or other family rows in the same case.
  • Old files leave the folder. When we checked, the oldest file was about 30 days old. Download what you need on a regular schedule.

Common questions

Does the address belong to the property?
It is the address given for that person in the case file. It may not be the property in the estate. Confirm the property before you use it.
