This site is not open from every country. In our test it showed error code 1009 from the Philippines and opened from the US.

What it is

The City of Milwaukee Treasurer's list of real estate tax accounts that are not paid. It covers properties in the City of Milwaukee.

Why it matters

Unpaid taxes can lead to foreclosure. The owner may want to sell before that happens. The owner name and mailing address are already in the file.

The fields you get

  • Levy year
  • Tax key
  • Property address
  • Alderman district
  • Owner name
  • Owner mailing address
  • Owner city, state and ZIP
  • Total tax principal

The dataset says it updates monthly. The file we saw was marked current balance as of October 5, 2026.

Follow these 5 steps

  1. Check that the site opens

Open data.milwaukee.gov. The site is not open from every country. If you see error code 1009, it is not available at your location. In our test it opened from the US and not from the Philippines.

  2. Download the file

Click this link: Delinquent Real Estate Tax Accounts CSV. The file downloads right away. It has about 17,500 rows.
Tip: This is the same data as the dataset page. That page may show Checking your browser first, and may ask you to solve a CAPTCHA.
  3. Open the file

Open the CSV in Excel or Google Sheets. Each row is one unpaid tax year for one property. The same property can have more than one row. Sample rows from the downloaded file, owner columns left out. This image is not a site screenshot.

  4. Find the oldest debts

Sort Levy Year from oldest to newest. Older unpaid years are closer to tax foreclosure.
  5. Save your records

Keep Tax Key #, Property Address, Levy Year, Total Tax Principal and Owner's Name. Save the sheet. Add City of Milwaukee and WI to each property address.

Tips for after you pull

  • Owners with a mailing address out of town may be absentee owners. Compare the mailing address with the property address.

Watch out for these

  • The City, State and Zip columns belong to the owner's mailing address, not the property. A row can say CHASKA, MN and still be a Milwaukee property.
  • Do not use those columns to sort by county. Every property in the file is in the City of Milwaukee.
  • Total Tax Principal does not include interest. The dataset page says the full payoff also includes accrued interest.

Common questions

Why do I see other cities in this file?
Those are owner mailing cities. The property is still in the City of Milwaukee.
