This site is not open from every country. In our test it showed error code 1009 from the Philippines and opened from the US.

What it is

The City of Milwaukee list of buildings marked as vacant. This is the city's vacant building record, not every code violation.

Why it matters

A vacant building costs the owner money and often gets more city attention. Many owners are open to selling.

The fields you get

  • Date opened
  • Property address
  • Land use code
  • Parcel number
  • Improvement value
  • Alderman district
  • ZIP
  • Census tract
  • Neighborhood

The dataset says it loads daily and a new vacant property can take up to 72 hours to appear. The file we saw was updated November 4, 2026.

Follow these 5 steps

  1. Check that the site opens

Open data.milwaukee.gov. The site is not open from every country. If you see error code 1009, it is not available at your location. In our test it opened from the US and not from the Philippines.

  2. Download the newest-first file

Click this link: Vacant Buildings CSV, newest first. The file downloads right away. It has about 1,775 rows.
Tip: This is the same data as the dataset page. That page may show Checking your browser first, and may ask you to solve a CAPTCHA.
  3. Open the file

Open the CSV in Excel or Google Sheets. Each row is one building on the vacant list. Sample rows from the downloaded file, owner columns left out. This image is not a site screenshot.

  4. Pick your area

Filter ZipCode to the ZIP codes you want. VALUEIMPROVED shows the value of the building.
  5. Save your records

Keep ADDRFULLLINE, ZipCode, PARCELNBR and DATEOPENED. Save the sheet. Add Milwaukee and WI to each address.

Watch out for these

  • There is no owner name in this file. Use PARCELNBR to look up the owner in city property records.
  • Some dates can be wrong. We saw a date in 2027 at the top of the newest-first file, so check the top rows.
  • This is a City of Milwaukee list. It does not cover other towns in the county.
