What it is

Liens filed by a city or village against a property. They are found inside the general lien type.

Why it matters

An unpaid city bill can point to an owner who is behind or a house that needs work.

The fields you get

  • Doc number
  • Date filed
  • Grantor (who filed)
  • Grantee (owner)
  • Parcel number
  • Address

Follow these 7 steps

  1. Open the Kane County document type search

  2. Select the document types

In Select Document Type, click LIEN - LIEN (GENERAL) and SANL - SANITARY LIEN. Hold Ctrl to select more than one. Your choices appear under Selected Documents.

  7. Copy your records

This page has no export button. Copy each row and the address into your spreadsheet.

Watch out for these

  • Click the Doc Num to open a record. Clicking a name starts a new name search and you lose your results.
  • The home page says each search returns up to 1000 records. Use shorter date ranges if you reach that.
  • Most general liens we saw came from homeowner associations. Those are not city liens.
  • The CITY OF filter also matched a name like SUN CITY. Read each row.
