What it is

Violations and inspections from City of Pittsburgh departments, from June 2020 to now. This covers Pittsburgh only, not all of Allegheny County.

Why it matters

An open code case can mean a neglected or vacant house, and an owner who may want out. Fines and repair orders add pressure to sell.

  4. Keep the open cases

Open the file in Excel. Filter the status column to In Violation. We counted 7,683 of those rows on November 5.
  5. Sort the newest first

Sort investigation_date newest to oldest. You now have the list.

Watch out for these

  • A second agreement box can show over the table. Click I Agree in it too.
  • Do not use the Historical PLI Violations files. They cover only 2015 to 2020.
  • Each case has separate rows for inspections, violations and court, so some dates are blank. Remove duplicate case numbers if you want one row per house.
  • In Court and Clean and Lien are also live statuses. Most rows are Closed.
  • There is no owner name. Use parcel_id on the Allegheny County property site.
