  2. Download the open records

Click this link: Building and Property Violations, open, newest first. The file downloads right away. We got 641 open rows on November 5.
Tip: This is the same data as the dataset page. That page may show Checking your browser first, and may ask you to solve a CAPTCHA.

Open the CSV in Excel or Google Sheets. Each row is one violation. Sample rows from the downloaded file, owner columns left out. This image is not a site screenshot.

  4. Join the address

The address is split up. Join violation_stno, violation_street and violation_suffix, then add violation_city and violation_zip.
  5. Save your records

Keep the case number, description, status_dttm and the address. Save the sheet.

Watch out for these

  • There are about 17,500 rows in all, and most are closed. The link in this guide gets only the open ones.
  • The file has contact address columns. That contact may not be the owner. Check City of Boston assessing records.
  • This is a City of Boston list. It does not cover Chelsea, Revere or Winthrop, which are also in Suffolk County.
